Acronicta afflicta (Grt.)

Identification: Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Page 87. The forewing is mottled pale gray to coal black. The only sharp marking is the orbicular spot, which is usually large and whitish, with darker center. The hindwing is white with grayish brown shading at the outer margin. Caterpillar host plants are oaks and walnuts.
