Phyllodesma americana (Harr.)
Identification: Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Page 54. Easily recognized by the scalloped outer margin of the forewing and hindwing (note the white in the scallops). The forewing color varies from bluish-gray to reddish ot yellowish-brown. The markings are white and violet. The reniform spot is a black vertical dash (if present). The caterpillar host plants are alder, birch, oak, poplar, and members of the rose family.
