Identification: Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Page 330. The forewing is mottled gray, with a vague white patch in the median area toward the costa. The basal ante-median and post-median lines are double, black, filled or accented with orangish-brown. The sub-terminal line is white. A dark gray tuft projects from the inner margin. The forewing pattern continues onto top of whitish to grayish hindwing. Caterpillar host plants are oaks.
