Alcedinidae (Kingfisher) Family
The belted kingfisher is the only kingfisher found in most of North America. Both male and female haver slate blue breast bands, white belly and undertail coverts. The female will have rust belly band and flanks and may be confused with a female Ringed Kingfisher. The preferred habitat is along rivers and brooks, ponds and lakesm estuaries. The bird is generally solitary.
