Identification: Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Page 160. The forewing is black with some broken whitish lines. The forewing reniform spot and hindwing discal spot are deeper black. Overall wingspan is about 2.2 cm. The caterpillar host plant is dead bark of maple and fungus.
