Fabaceae (Pea) Family
Plant is an upright, smooth to hairy annual. Its preferred habitat is roadsides, ditches and waste sites. Distribution is throughout the Escambia region.
The leaves are alternate on the stem; pinnately compound with leaflets being widest at the middle or oblong; no teeth or lobes.
Flowers are a raceme; the calyx is purplish to red; 5 petals that are reddish purple to nearly orange; 10 stamens. Flowers occur in the summer.
Fruit is a legume.
