Tricholomataceae (Honey) Mushroom Family
Wood Blewit measures 1 to 6 inches wide and about 4 inches tall. The cap is violet (fading to violet-gray or buff, then brown). The gills are partially attached and also pale violet (always matching the color of the cap). The stem is pale violet, which turns brown with age. The entire mushroom will often have fine white hairs at the cap margins. Spores are flesh colored and mature in autumn. Its preferred habitat is moist woods and marshy areas under broad-leaf trees.
