Caesar's Mushroom is identified by its smooth cap, yellow to yellowish-orange gills, yellowish stem and orange-yellow collar (if present). The collar is always located at the very top of the stem, nearly fused with the gills. The stem sits in an underground cup that is usually white. The oversall size of Caesar's Mushroom is 2-6 inches wide and 3-6 inches tall. Its preferred habitat is open woods, under conifers or oaks.
Caution -- This mushroom is easily confused with the Vermillion Hygrophorus. No mushroom should be eaten unless one is absolutely certain of its identification.
