Identification: Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Pg. 423. The Carpenterworm Moth is also known as Goat Moth. The forewing is mottled gray and black, slightly translucent. The male forewing is less sharply mottled. The male hindwing is yellow with a black outer border; twill be no yellow in the female hindwing. The moths pictured above are females. Caterpillar host plants are ash, chestnut, locust, oaks, poplar, and willow.
