Chalky Tricholoma
Tricholomopsis platyphylla
Tricholomataceae (Honey) Mushroom Family
Oyster mushrooms are generally gray to black on the cap, dry, inrolled with gills well separated and very broad. Cap may also be slightly depressed and split in age. The cap margins have short faint striations when wet. The flesh is thin, pliant, and white to gray. The stalk is 1-3 cm thick, equal or enlarging toward the base. There is no veil visible. Preferred habitat is a single plant resting on decaying logs, stumps, or under hardwood and pine trees.
