Identification Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Pg. 40. Hummingbird Clearwing os also known as Bedstraw Hawkmoth. This is a day-flier that hovers at flowers to drink nectar. Look for large transparent (unscaled) areas on both the forewing and hindwing, The scaled areas are brown. The inner edge of the outer border of the forewing is uneven. No reddish brown or black line will be seen beneath the wing base. The caterpillar host plants are honeysuckle, hawthorn, cherry and plum.
