Identification: Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Pg. 130. The forewing is pale brown with distinct markings, or blackish-brown with obscure lines and spots. The basal and lower median areas are blackish. Typical specimens have a large white patch in the median area of each forewing. Most others have only a short white streak or spot in the lower median area. The hindwing is dark grayish-brown. Caterpillar host plant is unrecorded.
