Confusing Peziza Mushroom
Peziza badioconfusa
Cup Fungi (Peziza, ssp) Family

Each cap in the cluster is 1-4 inches wide, and the height depends entirely on where the plant is located; growing around another plant, or emerging directly from leaf litter.  The shallow cups are mottle brown, turned upward at the margin and turns black with age.  Its preferred habitat is on rich soils or humus piles, often seen alongside stumps and fallen logs; especially fond of fern gardens.
