Eastern Crayfish
Cambarus bartonii

An Eastern Crayfish may also be known as Crawdad or Crawfish. Its overall body length may be five inches and it is often of varying color from reddish-brown to near black, depending on its aquatic environment. Look for miniature lobster-like foreclaws. Its preferred habitat is fresh water lakes and ponds, and under rocks or in mud.

In some parts of the country along the Mississippi and Tensaw deltas, the crawfish is considered a delicacy.
