Crimson Clover

Fabaceae (Pea) Family

Plant is an upright, hairy annual. Preferred habitat is fields and roadsides. Distribution is throughout the Escambia region.

Leaves are alternate on the stem, trifoliate (sets of three) with leaflets egg-shaped to lance-like and having finely toothed margins.

Flowers are heads on stalks emerging from the leaf axil. Each floret has five red petals. Flowers occur in the spring.

Fruit is a legume.

This clover is a native of Europe.
