Identification: Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Page 327. The forewing is gray with a blackish-brown median line that does not reach the costa. The blackish-brown reniform spot is usually prominent. There is a vague orangish patch below the spot. The labial palps are very large. The caterpillar host plants are alder, birch, blackberry, honeysuckle, dogwood, and serviceberry.
