Identification: Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Page 352. Similar to Fine-lined Gray, but the wings are more brownish and mottled. The discal dots are larger and rounder, and the lines are more dotted. The fringe is checkered. The female is yellowish-tan with a brown sub-terminal band and gray terminal shade. The black discal dots are larger in the female moth than in the male. Caterpillar host plants are asters and coreopsis.
