Identification Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Page 326 -- The forewing is pale yellowish to dark brown (usually light grayish-brown), with darker brown median area and sub-terminal band. The lines are dark, deeply scalloped at intersections with veins. The orbicular and reniform spots are pale yellowish. The reniform spot is represented by two black dots, sometimes fused into a vertical bar. The caterpillar host plants are dead leaves of most trees.
