Identification: Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Page 334. Very similar to Variable Oakleaf Caterpillar Moth, but the forewing is more brownish-gray. The median area is slightly darker than the rest of the forewing, the lines are much sharper and less scalloped. The post-median line has two concave sections. The hindwing is gray. Caterpillar host plants are basswood, beech, birch, elm, and oak.
