Identification: Look for a long pointed bill. The tail is short and square. The overall color is black, with greenish and purple gloss (nonbreeding birds have light spots). Immature birds are brownish, darker above. The preferred habitat is farmlands, open woodlands, brushy areas, towns, and cities.
