Plant is an upright, smooth perennial with winged or slightly winged stems. Its preferred habitat is edges of ponds, lakes and ditches. Distribution is throughout the Escambia region.
The leaves are alternate on the stem, consisting of one whole part, short leaf stalks, elliptic or lance-like in form.
The flowers are in the leaf axil, solitary, bisexual in nature and symmetrical in form. The calyx is 4-lobed, 4 yellow petals, and 4 stamens. Flowers occur in the summer.
Fruit is a capsule.
