Identification: Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Page 367 -- Similar to Dogwood Probole, but the post-median line is not as strongly toothed, and the upper part of the line between the tooth and the forewing costa (margin) is nearly straight. The median area is pale, with brown streaks along the veins. The color is reddish to purplish shading beyond the post-median line. The caterpillar host plants are sourwood and other swamp trees.
