Identification Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Page 398. The forewing is orange-brown or grayish-brown in varying shades. The ante-median and post-median lines are diffused, slightly darker than the ground color. The post-median line is edged with a paler color. The orbicular and reniform spots are usually present. The hindwing is usually the same color as the forewing, but median-line is lighter, darker in the costal area. The caterpillar host plants are alfalfa, beans, clover, corn, peas, strawberries, and other low plants.
