Identification: Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Page 167. The wings are dark brownish-gray with a broad blackish-gray band between the ante-median and the median lines. There will be gray patches in the terminal area of the forewing and the hindwing. Look for an inconspicuous reddish-brown reniform spot. The caterpillar host plants are pines.
