Heron (Ardeidae) Family

Identification: Large, gray-blue bird with a black stripe extending above the eye. The white foreneck is streaked with black. A breeding adult has a yellowish bill and ornate plumes on the head, neck, and back. Nonbreeding adults lacks the plumes, and the bill is bright yellow. Juveniles have a black crown, no plumes. The all-white morph is found in southern Florida was formerly considered a separate species.
