Identification: Reader's Digest, North American Wildlife, Pleasantville, New York, Susan Wernety, Editor -- The Great Egret is an overall length of 36 to 42 inches. It's a large white bird; long neck, thin, curved in flight. The bill is orange-yellow. The legs and feet are black. Its preferred habitat is wetlands and moist pastures.
