Identification: Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Page 166. The forewing and hindwing are blackish-brown to coal black, variably dusted with pale green and sometimes whitish mostly beyond the ante-median line, and in the sub-terminal and terminal areas. The lines are fine and black, with the lower sub-terminal line the heaviest. Caterpillar host plants are live oak, white oak, and spruce.
