Identification (Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Pg. 49): There will be a white-centered, black and blue eye on the hindwing. The forewing is yellowish in males and reddish to brown in females. In the Escambia region the forewing may be orangish to brighter red (A. Io lilith). The caterpillar host plants are Birch, Clover, Corn, Elm, Maple, Oak, Willow, Hackberry, Redbud and Pear.
