Plant is a climbing vine with angled stems. Its preferred habitat is woods, moist ditches, and along stream banks. Distribution is throughout the Escambia region.
Leaves are opposite on the stem; elongated, and arising on each side of the leaf stalk like a feather; three to five oval leaflets; no teeth and no lobes.
Flowers are fragrant; solitary at the end of the flowering stem; bisexual; symmetrical in form; four spreading sepals that are reflexed at the tip; crinkled. The flower color is blue; numerous stamens. Flowers occur in late spring and autumn.
Fruit is a seed which outer layer is fused to it (achene).
