Clear-Winged Moths (Sesiidae) family
Identification: Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Page 426. The red tuft at tip of abdomen and yellow in the sub-terminal area of the forewing identify this species. The caterpillar host plant is maple. The moth is common throughout our area from April to August. This is the only clear-winged moth that is regularly attracted to light.
