Identification Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Page 406 -- The forewing is gray with some brown shading, darkest toward the base. The median area is white. The ante-median line is double and nearly straight. The post-median line is more diffuse; the upper half bulging outward. The hindwing is dark grayish-brown. The caterpillar host plants are beech, elm, hickory, honey locust, hornbeam, maple, and sumac.
