Identification: Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Page 166. The forewing and hindwing are pale gray to grayish brown, often with an orange-yellow tint in the median area of the forewing. The lines are fine and wavy. The post-median line is black with two bulges in the upper half. The sub-terminal line is the heaviest, but usually only from the inner margin to the bulge of the post-median line. There will be some white tint beyond the sub-terminal line and its continuation onto the hindwing (this does not apply to all specimens). Caterpillar host plants are maple.
