Identification Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Page 401. The wings are pearly translucent white. The forewing has broad black costal border that continues on the outer margins of all wings; black band also extends across the thorax. Anal tufts are present. Caterpillar host plants are cucumber, melons, pumpkins and squash.

The gerkin and cantaloupe are often attacked but are not a preferred caterpillar host plant.
