Plant is an upright biennial. Preferred habitat is savannas, pine woods, vegetated dunes and bogs. Distribution is coastal in the Escambia region.
Leaves are basal rosettes; upper leaves are alternate on the stem; spatula-like, reduced upward. Leaves have no teeth and no lobes.
Flowers are in a raceme; bisexual in nature; irregular in form; 5 sepals with 2 being petal-like and orange. The corolla is 3-lobed; orange; 8 stamens. Flowers occur in the spring and summer.
Fruit is a capsule.
