Identification Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Page 401. The wings are iridescent purplish-brown with a yellow patch that continues onto the hindwing, filling out all but the broad marginal hindwing border. Note the characteristic anal tuft that will be present in both sexes. The caterpillar host plants are cucumbers, melons, gourds, and squash.
