English Plantain is also known as Rib Grass and Buckhorn Plantain.

Plant is an upright perennial. Preferred habitat is roadsides, gardens, lawns, fields and waste places. Distribution is throughout the Escambia region.

Leaves are narrowly widest at the middle to lance-like; long (almost linear) to as much as 12 inches; three to several prominent parallel veins.

Flowers are in a spike about one inch long or one-quarter the length of the stem that supports them. Flowers occur in the spring and summer.

Hoary Plantain is also known as Virginia Plantain, Southern Plantain and Pale Seed Plantain.

Plant is a winter annual with a taproot. Preferred habitat is shrub borders, gardens, roadsides, fields, swales and moist waste places. Distribution is throughout the Escambia region.

Leaves are large' hairy; mostly oblong to lance-like.

Flowers are in a dense spike. Flowers occur in the spring and summer.
