Selasphorus rufus

The Rufous is identified by its reddish tail.

The male bird has a rufous back, sometimes marked with green, very rarely entirely green, orange-red gorget.

Immature males may show reddish-brown back in winter before acquiring full gorget.

The female (above) shows more green on the back and more red and green on the tail as seen opposite.
