Salmon-colored Russula
Hygrophorus russula
Hygrophoraceae (Russula) Mushroom Family

The cap is broad to 10 inches; pink to dingy pink with brown to reddish purple hairs; viscid in wet weather; bruises yellow.  The flesh of the Salmon-colored Russula is thick and firm, white to pinkish, and the gills are attached to the stalk. Its preferred habitat is under oaks or hardwood forests. The plant is said to be edible but best not to sample its sweetness as it is difficult to distinguish from the mildly poisonous H. marginatus.
