Identification: Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Page 325. Fresh specimens are easily recognized by the solid yellow reniform spot contrasting with the shiny blackish forewing. The lines are inconspicuous-black with some fine whitish accents. The hindwing is light grayish-brown with dark lines and shading toward the outer margin. The caterpillar host plant is probably dead leaves.
