Identification: Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Pg. 51: Female moth is bright reddish to dark brown, with well developed reniform spots. The forewing will have a whitish post-median line and pale tan terminal border. Look for pinkish shading around the apical spot. Females are attracted to night lights. Males fly during daylight hours only. Caterpillar host plants are birch, cherry, sweet gum, tulip trees, sassafras, and spicebush.
