Identification: Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Page 411. The forewing is brown with some orange and purplish shading. Green patches are in the median area that are bordered with white, varying from large to nearly absent. The discal streak is brown to black. The hindwing is brown. The caterpillar host plants are apple, beech, chestnut, linden, maple, and oak, occasionally sycamore and willow.
