In the beginning this mush-
room appears like an egg and is often mistaken as a puffball.
As the egg matures the plant swells with water and lengthens
rapidly, emit-
ting a powerful, putrid aroma.
To identify the Stinkhorn, look for a pink
foamy-
looking stalk; the tip is tapered and covered with an olive-green
slime. All of the egg-shaped base is under-
ground.
Habitat is on humus piles and mulch or
woody debris. |
