Catocala amatrix (Hbn.)
Identification: Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Page 310. The forewing is grayish to purplish-brown with wavy black lines. The ante-median line is usually connected by short lines to the subreniform spot. The pattern may have a broken black shade line from the base to the outer margin. The hindwing is pinkish red with black bands. The fringe is wide and yellowish-white. The caterpillar host plants are poplars and willows.
