Plant is an upright annual; covered with a whitish coating that rubs off (like the dust on a grape). Preferred habitat is wet roadsides ditches, fields, marshes, and river sand bars. Distribution is throughout the Escambia region.

Leaves are alternate on the stem; compound divided (pinnate); with leaflets linear to oblong and having no teeth and no lobes.

Flowers are in the leaf axil as clusters; banner is yellow spotted with brown or purple or may be dark red with yellow wings and keel.

Flowers occur in the summer and early autumn.

Fruit is legume.
