Identification: Oplar, USGS Internet pages, Butterflies of Alabama - The Viceroy Butterfly has a wingspan of about 3.5 inches. The colors are brown to orange-brown or black with black veins. The Viceroy resembles the Monarch, except the Viceroy will have prominent black lines across the veins of its hindwing. The preferred habitat is forests, brush areas, meadows, washes and where willow trees are present.
