Identification Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Page 33. The forewing is pale brownish-gray with contrasting black streaks and zig-zag lines. The reniform dot is large and white with a black outline. The hindwing is gray with darker gray shading, more diffuse than those on the forewing. Caterpillar host plants are fringe-tree, hawthorn, oak and privet.
