Identification Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Pg. 336. The forewing is light gray, evenly streaked with black and white. There will be a white streak at the anal angle, and some light brown along the inner margin toward the base. Small black tufts as reniform dots will be seen midway on the inner margin. The hindwing is white in females and gray in males. Caterpillar host plants are beech, birch and oak.
