Plant is an upright, grass-like hairy perennial from a corm. its preferred habitat is rocky dry areas, prairies, pinelands and grassy roadsides. Distribution is throughout the Escambia region.
Leaves are basal; linear and have no teeth or lobes.
Flowers are at the end of a stalk; singular or clustered; subtended by two to several linear or pointed bracts. Color is always yellow. Flowers occur in the spring.
Fruit is a capsule.
The entire plant is said to be poisonous.
