Identification: Covell, Moths of Eastern North America, Page 75. The body is bluish-black with an orange collar (occasionally yellow). The forewing is blackish and slightly translucent in the middle. The hindwing is translucent except for black veins and margins. Caterpillar host plants grasses, lichens, and spike-rush
